Trezor.io/Start® – Getting Started with Your Trezor Device

Welcome to the official Trezor.io/Start® onboarding guide. This step-by-step walkthrough will help you initialize, set up, and secure your Trezor hardware wallet, ensuring your cryptocurrencies remain protected with the industry's leading cold storage technology.

Step 1: Unbox Your Trezor

Carefully unbox your Trezor device. Inside, you’ll find the Trezor hardware wallet, a USB cable, a recovery seed card, and a getting started guide. Make sure the holographic seal is intact—this ensures your device hasn’t been tampered with. Only use accessories provided in the box to guarantee safety and compatibility.

Step 2: Connect to Your Computer

Go to trezor.io/start and select your device model (Trezor Model One or Model T). Connect your Trezor to your computer using the provided USB cable. You will be prompted to install the Trezor Suite, the official desktop app for managing your crypto assets.

Step 3: Install Firmware

If your Trezor device is brand new, it will not have firmware installed. Follow the on-screen instructions in Trezor Suite to install the latest firmware. This process ensures that your device has a clean, verified installation directly from the official Trezor servers.

Step 4: Create a New Wallet

Once the firmware is installed, you’ll be asked to create a new wallet. Choose the “Create new wallet” option. Your Trezor will generate a 12- or 24-word recovery seed phrase. Write this down on the recovery seed card included in your package. Never store it digitally or share it with anyone.

Step 5: Backup Your Recovery Seed

This step is crucial. Your recovery seed is the only way to restore access to your wallet if your Trezor is lost or damaged. Keep the seed in a secure, offline location. Consider using a fireproof and waterproof backup solution like a metal seed plate for added protection.

Step 6: Set a PIN

After backing up your seed, set a strong PIN on your device. This adds an extra layer of protection. The Trezor device will display a grid of numbers; use the on-screen instructions in Trezor Suite to input your PIN without revealing it on your computer screen.

Step 7: Access Your Wallet

With your wallet created and secured, you can now view your dashboard in Trezor Suite. From here, you can send and receive cryptocurrencies, monitor your portfolio, label transactions, and manage accounts. Trezor Suite supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other coins and tokens.

Step 8: Enable Advanced Security (Optional)

For enhanced protection, explore advanced features such as passphrase encryption, Shamir backup, or connecting your Trezor with third-party apps like MetaMask. These options are ideal for experienced users who require additional security layers for their digital assets.
